Welcome to St. Nicholas on Sunday 5th May (Easter 6)

Dear Friends and Family of St. Nick’s,

Grace and peace to you all! As we approach the beauty of spring and witness the world bursting into life around us, our hearts and minds turn to the deep and abiding love that Christ has for each of us—a theme poignantly reflected in our upcoming Gospel reading, John 15:9-17. In this passage, Jesus calls us to remain in His love and commands us to love one another as He has loved us. This powerful message is not just a call to feel but to action—a call to live out that love in tangible, life-affirming ways.

Reflecting on these words, Jesus doesn’t just suggest or hope that we will love; He commands it. It’s a directive that ties us to each other and Him, showing that our lives are most fruitful and fulfilled when they are lived in love. He tells us, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Here, Jesus defines the highest expression of love, pointing ahead to His sacrificial love on the cross, and setting an example for us all.

With this message of love and community in mind, I am thrilled to invite you to our Intergenerational Service this coming Sunday. This service is a celebration of all ages within our church family, from the youngest to the oldest, and an opportunity to embody the love Jesus speaks about. Please extend this invitation to your friends, Neighbours, and especially the children in your life. It’s a chance for us to connect across different generations, share our stories, and learn from one another, thereby enriching our faith and strengthening our bonds.

As we gather together, let us remember that our community is like a garden—diverse and interdependent. Each of us, at every stage of life, has something unique and valuable to contribute. Our Intergenerational Service is a beautiful expression of this diversity and a practical way we live out the command to love each other as Christ loved us.

May we come together with open hearts and joyful spirits, eager to learn, share, and grow in Christ’s love. Let’s make this service a memorable one, full of laughter, fellowship, and the shared love of our church family. Your presence is a blessing, and together, we make our community a reflection of the divine.

With anticipation and love,

Revd Dr. Augustine Tanner-Ihm
