St.Nick’s newsletter for Sunday 1st December Advent 1

Dear Friends,

The first Sunday of Advent is indeed a time of reflection and anticipation. The Gospel reading from Luke 21:25-36 speaks of signs in the sun, moon, and stars, and the distress among nations, indicating that the kingdom of God is near.

Jesus urges us to be vigilant and alert, so we are not caught unawares.

Hope during Advent can be seen in various ways:

1. Hope in Promises: The readings remind us of God’s promises of deliverance and restoration. Jeremiah 33:14-16 speaks of a righteous branch from David’s line who will bring justice and righteousness
2. Hope in Presence: Jesus’ words assure us that even in tumultuous times, our redemption is drawing near. This hope is not just for the future but is present in our daily lives as we see God’s work around us
3. Hope in Community: Sharing hope involves embodying justice and love in our interactions. As we prepare for Christmas, we can find hope in acts of kindness, support, and solidarity with those in need

As we journey through Advent, reflecting on these themes can help us recognize and share the hope that comes with the anticipation of Jesus’ birth. How do you plan to embrace and share hope this Advent season?

Come and experience the first Sunday of advent with us and start your journey…
